The Sledge Institute
We are reinventing what learning can look like with a place-based, problem-solving approach. When lessons are relevant, students are engaged. When students are engaged, learning is transformative.
Our school community embodies excellence and integrity in all roles, valuing and honoring every person. We continuously learn about ourselves and our global communities, exploring our gifts and wondering how they can be applied to solve world problems. Driven by love, wonder, and lifelong learning, we create a joyful educational experience. Our relevant, purposeful learning environment will extend beyond the classroom, encouraging meaningful collaborations and empowering opportunities for everyone.

We are committed to six key elements that nurture curiosity and empower students to become responsible global citizens. Our approach, shaped by extensive experience and partnerships, reflects our mission in every aspect of learning.
Engaging students in real-world projects, Project-Based Learning (PBL) blends content mastery and personal growth. It fosters deep learning, critical thinking, and collaboration with industry professionals.
Using the local community to teach various subjects enhances learning by connecting content to real experiences. It fosters community partnerships and active student engagement, cultivating a sense of belonging and agency.
Teaching concepts and skills for an interconnected, multicultural world, global education combines traditional disciplines with project-based inquiries, examining issues from local to global perspectives.
Students in competency-based education make decisions about their learning, receive personalized support, and progress based on demonstrated skills. This approach ensures equity and emphasizes relevant, measurable, and transferable competencies.
We focus on a future-ready framework that emphasizes critical thinking, workforce preparation, and leadership development. This approach ensures students are equipped with the skills needed for postsecondary success beyond standardized tests.
Our wellness focus covers health, social-emotional learning, and mindfulness. Students create personalized wellness plans, integrating these skills into their learning. This emphasis on overall well-being fosters empathy, self-confidence, and strong interpersonal skills.
Families are busy and students love to be with friends. We will extend the love by offering before and after care programs.
Healthy minds require healthy bodies. Sledge will provide free meal programs to all students, including breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
We will provide transportation from anywhere in our service area. As we get closer to our opening date, more information will be available on transportation options.
Dr. Sledge Mathias launched "Wouldn't It Be Cool If" Organization in 2020, inspired by her diverse educational leadership experiences. She envisioned a school embodying innovative practices and engaged a community to establish the Sledge Institute in North Carolina. Follow our journey and join the adventure!
